Website Design is Unimportant
This last year has seen a terrific surge in companies and individuals getting there act together with online presence. Not before time many people are realizing just how effectively the web can serve them. In 1998 when I started developing websites the emphasis was on design and whilst the rules of a good design still hold true (A good design is not noticed by the on looker, a bad design stares out), today a website has become a frontline showroom, a back office and is interactive with one’s audience.
I am frequently asked how to go about getting control of websites and making them work for the owner
The answer to doing this without spending a fortune involves several small steps:-
- Start with figuring out appropriate keywords for what you are offering go to http://www.clockworksales.co.uk/ for useful information
- Now look for and register a suitable domain name or a couple
- Get website hosting with a package which allow the install of a successful CMS (Content Management System) like wordpress
- Plan and publish your content to inform your audience of the whos, whys, wheres, and whens of your offering to the world
Now and only now is the time to worry about the design !
The reason for this is that today design and content are divorced from each other. New looks can be done in a couple of hours not days. Content can be published and reflected in GOOGLE searches within minutes. No content and your audience is gone forever.
